Workspace Suite

As a product designer at Here (Previously OpenFin), one of my primary responsibilities include redesigning existing features, implementing feature updates, and designing end-to-end new features for the company’s flagship product, the Workspace Suite.

This suite is an operating system composed of 5 key UI products: Home, Browser, Notification Center, Dock, and Store. These products are designed to enhance user productivity in the workplace.

In addition to my regular design tasks, I am also a core member of the team responsible for recreating the company’s design system. I work closely with fellow designers and design leads and collaborate frequently with product managers, engineers, the documentation team, and the marketing team to deliver high-quality products.

Refinements for Better Experience

As a product designer, a key part of my daily workflow is continuously identifying areas for refinement.

One example is a reminder feature I designed, which allows users to set reminders for notifications they can't address immediately and revisit them later.

Through user testing and feedback, we discovered small but impactful details that improved the user experience, such as using the term 'Reminder' instead of 'Snooze' and allowing users to set custom reminder times and feel more productive.

These small yet thoughtful enhancements collectively shape the overall product experience

Unlocking New Possibilities

I also constantly seek opportunities to introduce brand-new, end-to-end features to our products.

For example, I led the design of an advanced filtering system for the Notification Center from 0 to 1.

Previously, the Notification Center only offered categorization and sorting features. However, due to the high volume and diverse categories of notifications, users struggled to find specific notifications efficiently. To address this, I designed an advanced filter that enhances navigation and improves the overall user experience.

Robust Design System

Another major project I was a core member of was the redesign and reorganization of the company's legacy design system.

As a team, we worked through defining color tokens, elevation rules, fonts, and grid systems, all the way to creating essential design components, from icons to containers.

Though the process was time-consuming, it was incredibly rewarding. With the new, robust design system in place, we've been able to scale design efforts more efficiently, saving a significant amount of design time.

Life as a product designer...

Besides daily design works and maintaining a cool design system, the seemingly obvious designer tasks, another important part of being a product designer is to work with people, understand people and tell stories to people. I found myself using visuals and flows to better explain my designs, working with product team to better the overall workflow of the larger team, as well as shadowing engineers interacting with figma to create better handoff notes...
