Introduction

A User-Driven Need to Take Care of Dismissed Notifications

Our users are traders and bankers who work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. They receive a constant stream of market updates, client messages, and system alerts. Although these notifications are important, they often don’t have time to respond right away. Many are dismissed with the intention to revisit them later, but that rarely happens.

The reminder feature helps users postpone and return to important notifications without losing track, ensuring they don’t miss critical information in a fast-paced workflow

A Bigger Underlying Need: Better Navigation in the Notification Center

While the reminder feature supports short-term follow-up, our user research revealed a deeper issue: the notification center itself lacks effective navigation. Users often lose track of important messages, buried under the volume of alerts they receive each day.
To solve this, we redesigned the notification center with clearer categorization and introduced advanced filters. These changes help users find, prioritize, and act on critical information more efficiently.

Design Impact

The improved notification center has received excellent feedback. We achieved 100% user satisfaction during testing and saw a 2x increase in follow-up actions on reminded notifications. Users reported reduced stress and better task management thanks to the new features.

Before and After Design

Reminder: addressing the immediate user pain point

Before

When notifications appeared on users' desktops, they could either act immediately or dismiss them. Dismissed notifications were often forgotten, and without proper categorization or filters, it was difficult to find them again in the notification center.

After

With the new reminder feature, users can now snooze notifications they can't address right away, using preset time options or a custom date and time. A dedicated “Reminders” category also makes it easy to locate and follow up on these notifications later.

Categorization and Advanced Filter: solving the bigger underlying navigation problem

Improved Categorization for Easier Navigation

User testing and interviews revealed a deeper issue: finding the right notifications was difficult due to poor organization.
To solve this, we introduced a new categorization system that makes notifications easier to locate and manage:

All – Displays every incoming notification.
Sender – Groups notifications by their source platform.
Needs Attention – Highlights sticky notifications of high-priority, defined by platform owners.
Reminder – Shows notifications that users have snoozed to follow up on later.
Archive – Contains expired, completed, or cleared notifications.

This new structure improves discoverability and helps users focus on what matters most.

Advanced Filters for Power Users

The advanced filter offers robust functionality for users who need more control. It allows them to narrow down notifications by specific criteria such as time, priority, indicator color, and more—making it easier to find exactly what they’re looking for.
